Biography
Mikhail Klimenko was born on October 23, 1906 on the Pyatibratsky farm (now the Kurmanayevsky district of the Orenburg region ). After graduating from primary school he worked in his father's household.
In 1928 - 1931 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1930, Klimenko graduated from the Leningrad Military Theoretical School of the Air Force and the Lugansk Military Aviation Pilot School. After retiring, he worked as an instructor pilot in the civil aviation system. In June 1941, Klimenko was again drafted into the army.
Since July 1941, on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War [1] . He acted as a member of the Baltic Coast Coast Guard Air Group from the island of Saaremaa.
By the end of 1941, Senior Lieutenant Mikhail Klimenko commanded the link of the 57th Assault Aviation Regiment of the 8th Baltic Fleet Bomber Air Brigade . By that time, he had completed 52 sorties to attack the clusters of military equipment and enemy manpower, causing great losses. As a result of his actions, 34 tanks, 30 anti-aircraft artillery guns, 12 armored vehicles, 103 cars were destroyed, and a German submarine was sunk [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated June 14, 1942, Lieutenant Mikhail Klymenko was awarded the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star " number 652 [1] .
In 1946, in the rank of Major Klimenko was dismissed. He lived in Ulyanovsk , worked in aviation schools. He died on November 18, 1991, and was buried in the Northern cemetery of Ulyanovsk [1] .
He was also awarded two Orders of the Red Banner and two Orders of the Patriotic War , 1st degree, as well as a number of medals [1] .
