Biography
Alexander Kobzdey was born on September 12, 1920 in Olesko, Ukraine. From 1939 to 1941 he studied architecture in Lviv . In 1946 he graduated from the Gdansk Polytechnic University, then studied at the Cracow Academy of Arts .
He died on September 29, 1972 in Warsaw and was buried at the Powzki military cemetery .
Creativity
At the beginning of his work, he adhered to socialist realism . His most famous work in this direction is the painting “Podaj cegłę” (Give the brick) from the masons diptych, painted in 1950.
Since 1950, he actively participated in the annual National Exhibitions of Painting, organized by the Ministry of Culture. Under the influence of trips to Asian countries, Alexander Kobdzey began to gradually abandon socialist realism and began to write abstract paintings in the style of postmodernism . Of the abstract works, the most famous are Szczelina w zieleni (Slit in the green, 1967) Szeroka szczelina między fioletami (Wide slit among the violet, 1968).
He was a co-author of the complex of buildings of the Chinese Embassy on 1 Bonifratorskaya Street.
