Biography
Military Service
The youngest son of Lieutenant-General Alexander Artemievich Zagryazhsky . The older brother Boris is also a military man, rose to the rank of general, the other brother Nikolai lived at the imperial court.
He entered military service in 1760, served in the army cavalry, from January 1, 1771 - Prime Minister of the Vyatka Carabinieri Regiment , [1] from 1775 - colonel . From 1779 to 1786, Ivan Zagryazhsky served as commander of the Kargopol Carabinieri Regiment . [2] On April 21, 1784 he was promoted to the rank of foreman , and on September 22, 1786 - to the rank of major general .
He distinguished himself during the war with the Turks . Awarded the Order of St. George 3rd degree: [3]

For facilitating the conclusion of a victorious peace with Turkey, he also had the Order of St. Anne (04.21.1789) and St. Vladimir of the 2nd degree (02.09.1792). [four]
At the end of hostilities on September 2, 1793, he was promoted to lieutenant general , and on November 24, 1796 he was renamed the rank of lieutenant general with the appointment of chief of the Smolensk Dragoon Regiment on December 3 of that year. He remained in this position until July 16, 1797.
June 28, 1794 was awarded the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky .
Personal life
Zagryazhsky was married to Alexander Stepanovna Alekseeva (d. In 1800), who in the 1770s gave birth to three children [5] [6] :
- Alexander (1772-1813) - real chamberlain, godfather of Natalia Nikolaevna Goncharova (Pushkina);
- Sophia (1778-1851) - wife of Count Francois Xavier de Mestre ;
- Catherine (1779-1842) - maid of honor, godmother of the children of A.S. Pushkin .Ratshof - Lipthart Manor
Later he fell in love with Efrosinha Ulrika von Liphart , who was born in 1761 on the Ostseey estate of Rathof and was married to Baron Moritz von Posse af Säby in 1778 . [7] The marriage turned out to be fragile and short-lived, as the young baroness was carried away by a visitor to Derpt at the January Fair in 1782, Colonel of the Kargopol Carabinieri Regiment Ivan Zagryazhsky. She left her husband and, leaving her little daughter two and a half years old (Johann Wilhelmina), fled to Russia with the colonel [8] .
It is known that for a short time the fugitives lived in Pskov , then in St. Petersburg . The divorce of the Posse spouses was filed on August 24, 1782, after a process that lasted six months. When the Kargopol regiment was transferred to Tambov , Zagryazhsky may have settled Ulrika in Karian. According to family tradition, they secretly married. In 1784, the regiment was supposed to go south, and Ivan Alexandrovich brought Ulrika, who was expecting a child at that time, to his family estate Yaropolets , where his legal wife lived. In Yaropolets, the former Baroness Posse gave birth to a daughter, Natalia (1785-1848) [6] .
Baroness von Liphart died after 6 years, her daughter Natasha Alexandra Stepanovna brought up as her own [9] , in official documents she appeared as a “pupil” of Ivan Alexandrovich [10] .
After the death of his uncle, Nikolai Artemievich Zagryazhsky (1729-1788), he and his brother inherited the estate of Karian in the Tambov province. He claimed the post of ruler of the Tambov governorship . Known for conflicting with G. R. Derzhavin , who held this post, and challenged him to a duel [6] .
Towards the end of his life, he went broke He died at the age of 58.
