Balagan district ( Balagan district ) is an administrative-territorial unit within the Irkutsk province that existed in 1775-1783 and 1856-1925. The county town is Balagansk .

Content
History
Balagan district was formed in 1775 as part of the Irkutsk province. In 1783, the county was abolished.
It was recreated in 1856 as the Balagan District. Since 1898, it again became a county.
In 1917-1918, the Cheremkhovsky district was formed from part of the Balagan district , and separate Buryat aimags were created on the other part. As a result, the countyβs area has more than halved.
In 1924, the Balagan district was abolished, and its territory was divided between the Irkutsk and Ziminsky districts [2] .
Population
According to the 1897 census , 145 691 [1] people lived in the okrug. Including Russians - 60.8%; Buryats - 35.6%; Tatars - 1.2%. 1314 people lived in the district town of Balagansk.
