Graviere, Jurien de la

The son of Admiral Pierre Jurien de la Gravière (Pierre Roch Jurien de La Gravière). He began his service at the French Navy on October 19, 1828.

During the Crimean War, the Engraver acted in the Black Sea against the Russian fleet.

In 1861, he was appointed to command a squadron heading to Mexico , and in December he was appointed head of the entire Mexican expedition , but soon after the outbreak of the war he transferred command of the land detachment to General Laurence .

Commanding a squadron of the Mediterranean Sea , Engraver carried out fundamental transformations of its internal organization. In 1871 he was appointed director of the depot of maps and plans of the fleet and inspector of the fleet.
