The 2014 Fencing World Championship was held from July 15 to 23 in Kazan , Russia under the auspices of the International Fencing Federation .

The championship was originally planned to be held in Sofia , Bulgaria , but due to financial problems it was moved to Kazan. 12 sets of awards were played at the tournament: in individual and team championships in fencing with swords, rapiers and sabers among men and women.

On July 15, qualification competitions were held for saber fencers, in which the participants of the 1/32 finals were determined. The Russians Veniamin Reshetnikov , Alexei Yakimenko , Kamil Ibragimov and Nikolai Kovalev did not participate in the qualification, as they entered the top 16 in the rating and reached the 1/32 finals directly. Russian saber fencers Sofya Velikaya , Dina Galiakbarova and Yana Egoryan reached the 1/32 finals through the qualification stage, Yekaterina Dyachenko reached the 1/32 finals directly.
On July 16 qualification rounds were held at the rapiers. The Russians Timur Safin and Alexei Khovansky made it to the 1/32 finals through qualification. Dmitry Rigin and Alexey Cheremisinov got there directly due to the high rating. All Russian foil fencers - Inna Deriglazova , Larisa Korobeinikova , Diana Yakovleva and Yulia Biryukova also made it to the 1/32 finals of the qualifying rounds.
On July 17 qualification rounds for the fencers passed. Sergei Khodos made it to the 1/32 finals through qualification, Pavel Sukhov , Anton Avdeev made it to the 1/32 finals directly. Lyubov Shutova got into the 1/32 finals through qualification, Violetta Kolobova and Yana Zvereva got into the 1/32 finals directly.
