Mir was built at the Gdansk shipyard in 1987. The length of the vessel is 109.6 meters, draft 6.6 meters, the total sail area is 2771 m², the height of the middle mast is 49.5 meters. Holds up to 200 people.

The same type of vessels were built in Poland : “The Gift of Youth ”, “ Friendship ” for Odessa , “Peace” for Leningrad , “ Khersones ” for Sevastopol , “ Pallas ” and “ Hope ” for Vladivostok .

Since launching in 1987, the ship has repeatedly won prizes in the most prestigious sailing regattas (including the Cutty Sark ). In 1992, he won a large regatta dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America.

It is considered the fastest sailing ship in the world. The officially registered maximum speed under sails is 21 knots (38.9 km / h). In 2010, he set an average speed record of 11.3 knots.

Service

As part of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the first naval victory of the Russian fleet over the Swedes at Cape Gangut, the training vessel Mir will make the spiritual and patriotic campaign “The Navy - Glory” in 2014, during which it will visit the ports of Greece, Finland, Sweden and Turkey [2] .
