Biography
Bernard Aloysius Kiernan Hughes was born on July 16, 1915 in the town of , New York . His parents were immigrants from Ireland , Mudge and Owen Hughes. He studied at the La Salle Academy High School, then at . In his youth, Hughes worked as a docker, a salesman at Macy's supermarket, an assistant editor at The Wall Street Journal . Having started his acting career in 1934 [5] , he changed one letter in his name on the advice of a numerologist and became B р rnard .
In 1943-1945 he served in the army, participated in the Second World War. On April 19, 1950, he married actress , with whom he lived for more than 56 years until his death. The couple have two children: Laura (born in 1959, actress) and Douglas (born in 1955, theater director).
Barnard Hughes died on July 11, 2006, five days before his 91st birthday [5] .
