The 2013 South America Rope was won between Corinthians , the winner of the 2012 Libertadores Cup , and SΓ£o Paulo , the winner of the 2012 South American Cup . The winner in the sum of two matches was Corinthians, who won the first match with a score of 2: 1, and the return - 2: 0.
For the first time in its history, Corinthians participated in the Rekopa draw, while for SΓ£o Paulo this was the fourth participation in the tournament. In the three previous draws, SΓ£o Paulo won two victories - over the Cruzeiro in 1993 and a year later, in 1994, over the Botafogo - and was defeated by the Boca Juniors in 2006.
The South American Rekopa 2013 was the sixth draw in a row in which teams from one country met, and the third in which clubs from Brazil played among themselves. In both previous cases, SΓ£o Paulo played with Cruzeiro and Botafogo in 1993 and 1994, respectively.
The South American rekopa is played in two matches, with the host of the first match returning playing away, and vice versa. The winner of the Libertadores Cup (or the best team not from Mexico) plays the second leg at home. A team that scores more points in the sum of two matches - three are given for a victory, one for a draw and zero for a loss - becomes the winner. In case of equal points for both teams after the return match, the team with the best difference between goals scored and goals is won. If the difference in goals between the two teams is the same, the away goal rule does not apply. In this case, an additional time of two halves of 15 minutes is assigned. If the score remains the same, then a penalty shoot-out is awarded.
