Life and work
A. Funi studies painting at the Milan Academy of di Brera ( it. ) In the period from 1906 to 1910, the formation among his best students of Fernando Carcupino . In 1914, he joined the cube-futuristic movement. With the entry of Italy into the First World War, A. Funi volunteers in the army, serves in a motorcycle battalion. He participated in the avant-garde direction "return to order ( Ritorno all'ordine )" during the war.
After the end of hostilities A. Funi pays great attention to the study of ancient, Greco-Roman art. At this time, he was under the creative influence of metaphysical realism by Giorgio di Chirico . After meeting Marguerite Zarfatti , a journalist and art critic, A. Funi in 1922 became one of the founders of the Novevento group, becoming one of the leaders of the Italian Novelty movement. He took part in the first and second exhibitions of “Novento” in Milan, in 1926 and 1929. Over time, from about 1920, the artist gradually switches to the creative position of neoclassical realism. In the 1930s he painted numerous murals. In 1933, he signs, together with Mario Sironi , the Manifesto of Wall Paintings ( Manifesto della Pittura Murale ) against the individualistic concept of art. In 1939, A. Funi received a teaching position at the Academy di Brera, and collaborated with her until 1960. During the Second World War, he writes decorative, vibrant works for public and religious institutions in Milan, and also enjoys landscape painting.
