Jasenovac ( Croatian. Jasenovac ) is a city and community in the extreme south-east of the Sisak-Moslavin County , in western Slavonia ( Croatia ).

Located at the confluence of the Una River in Sava . Surrounded by the rivers Trebezh and Struga .
The community includes 10 villages. The total area is 168.5 km².

Demographics
In 2001, the municipality of Jasenovac had 2391 inhabitants, 91% (2179) of which were Croats , and 5.90% (141) were Serbs . Until 1992, the total population was 3,599 people, the proportion of Croats was 2,419 (67.21%), the Serb minority - 911 residents (25.31%).
History
During the Second World War, the village became the site of the notorious Jasenovac concentration camp , which formed the basis of the complex of concentration camps of Ustasha in the framework of their Holocaust policy. According to various estimates, from 56 to 97 thousand people died in the camp [1] .
In 1991, Serbian forces destroyed the Jasenovac bridge across the river. Sava, linking the village with Bosnia and Herzegovina . Jasenovac was liberated on May 1, 1995 by forces of the Croatian forces during the military operation "Lightning" to regain control of western Slavonia .
In 2005, a new bridge was built with funding from Croatia and the European Commission . To date, mine clearance operations are ongoing in the village area. [2]
Culture
Jasenovac has a library with over 10,000 books in its collections. The liberation day of Jasenovac during the military operation "Lightning" on May 1, 1995 is celebrated here as a local holiday.
Jasenovac is located in the Lonsko Pole Nature Park, the largest wetland conservation area in Croatia. [3]
Sport
The community has the NK Jasenovac Football Club, founded in 1919.
