The tournament has been held since 1993. Extra League season runs from September to May next year. The worst teams of the season drop out of the strongest and begin the new season in the First League. The leaders of the First League, by contrast, annually go to Extra-League. In 2008 and 2010, the championship finals are held at the Eden Arena stadium.
The commercial partner of the championship is the banking organization Komerční banka .
