Biography
Stepan Kirgizov was born in 1900 in the village of Ust-Karsk (now the Sretensky district of the Transbaikal Territory ). He graduated from elementary school. He participated in the battles of the Civil War . After its completion, Kirgizov worked at enterprises, then at the police station, and later became chairman of the village council. In 1941, Kirghizov was called up by the Ust-Kars RVK to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since July of the same year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War: South and Voronezh. He graduated from junior lieutenant courses. Candidate member of the CPSU (b). By September 1943, Senior Lieutenant Stepan Kirgizov commanded a machine gun company of the 383rd Infantry Regiment of the 121st Infantry Division of the 60th Army of the Central Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1]. June 26, 1943 wounded. [2]
On September 26, 1943, a company of Kirgizov crossed the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Glebovka, Vyshgorod district of the Kiev region of the Ukrainian SSR, and seized a bridgehead on its western shore. With her fire, she covered the crossing of the main regimental units, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy in military equipment and manpower [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 17, 1943, Senior Lieutenant Stepan Kirgizov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] [3] .
March 29, 1944 Kirgizov died in the battles of Kamenetz-Podolsky . [4] He was buried in the village of Dolzhok, Kamenetz-Podolsky district, Khmelnytsky region of Ukraine [1] [5] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Star [1] [6] - for personally killing 15 enemy soldiers by machine gun fire and for the fact that in the battles for Voronezh and Kursk his company destroyed up to 270 soldiers and officers of the enemy.
A street in Ust-Karsk was named in honor of Kirgizov [1] .
