Commemoration Day of Khojaly Victims

Memorial Day of Khojaly victims ( “Day of the Khojaly genocide and national mourning” ) is a memorable date, which is celebrated on February 26 in the Republic of Azerbaijan .

On February 25-26, 1992, there was a massacre of civilians in the Azerbaijani city of Khojaly by Armenian armed forces. According to the official data of the investigation of the Azerbaijani parliament, 485 people were recognized as victims of the Khojaly massacre .

On March 1, 1994, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev issued a special decree. According to the decree of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, February 26 was declared the “Day of Khojaly genocide and national mourning”. [one]

Every year on February 26, the President of the Azerbaijan Republic addresses the people in connection with the Khojaly genocide and takes part in a ceremony to pay homage to the victims of Khojaly. [2]
