Career
Born in a family of professional cyclists (Jon's father, Jose Ramon and brother Gorka, are also professional cyclists), in August 2009 Isaguirre signed a professional contract with his daughter team Euskaltel-Euskadi - the Orbea cycling team, which he played for a year and a half, not achieving particularly high achievements. Despite this, in 2011 he signed a contract with the main Basque team - Euskaltel-Euskadi . In the first year, Ion did not achieve any special achievements, but in 2012 he won the stage of the Vuelta of Asturias and joined the team in the Giro d'Italia . At his first super-day, the young Basque showed his best side and won the 16th stage, which finished in Falces . In the overall classification, Isagirre became the 48th, and in the youth classification he closed the top ten. The Basque also performed well on the Tour of Poland , which he completed in seventh position.
Successful for Isagirre turned out to be the beginning of the 2013 season. He stopped a step from the podium at Tour Down Ander , becoming the fourth in the overall standings. It is noteworthy that he was able to get ahead of his older brother Gorka , who showed the seventh result. At most spring races, Ion played the role of a team worker, which negatively affected his own results. Nevertheless, at the Championship of Spain, which was held in June, he took fourth place in the time trial, and in the group race he completely became second, having won a silver medal.
From 2014 to 2016 played for the Movistar Team . During these three seasons, he won twice at the Spanish Championship (2014, 2016), took the bronze of the 2015 World Cup , won the Poland Tour 2015 and the Miguel Indurajna Grand Prix -2016.
Then he spent two seasons (2017-2018) in the Bahrain – Merida team, but only took bronze twice in the Spanish Championship and twice - third place in his native Basque Country Tour .
In August 2018, he moved to Astana Pro Team with his brother Gorka. [one]
In the season of 2019, he won on 10 February Vuelta Valencia in the individual competition, beating the three-time winner of this race Alejandro Valverde and his teammate Pello Bilbao by 7 seconds. [2]
March 17, won the final 8th stage of the French stage race Paris - Nice . [3]
On April 13, Ion finally won the native Basque Country Tour as part of the Astana Pro Team , previously being only three times thrice. [four]
