Janet Evans ( born Janet Evans ; born August 28, 1971, Orange County , California ) is an American swimmer. [1] Specialized in middle-distance freestyle swimming (400, 800 and 1,500 meters), as well as in an early career at 400 meters with integrated swimming.

She made her debut in the national team at the 1987 Pacific Swimming Games and at the 1988 Olympic Games . [2] She set a world record seven times, including a 800 meter swim, a record that has been held unbroken for twenty years. [3]
