"Twisting" (from the behavior of the spine during the exercise - its transverse twisting) is a physical exercise to develop abdominal muscles when bending the upper body without lifting the lower back from the bench or standing. An exercise in which the lower body is bent (not only the legs in the hip joint , but also the pelvis in the lumbar region) is called reverse twisting or raising the legs .

The exercise involves the rectus , external and internal oblique muscles of the abdomen , and when flexing in the hip joint and flexors of the back (the rectus femoris , the iliopsoas and the crestis muscle ). Exercise is performed at an average or slow pace smoothly, if desired with isometry - a delay in a fixed position in the final phase.
Exercises can be performed both with resistance in the form of their own weight and flexibility of the spine , and with an additional load in the form of a change in the angle of inclination of the bench, weights, blocks, harnesses or trainers .
