Alexander Anatolyevich Chepurov (born July 26, 1957 , Leningrad , RSFSR , USSR ) - Soviet and Russian theater historian , doctor of art history . Rector of the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts ( 2011 - 2017 ).

Biography

Born on July 26, 1957 in the city of Leningrad in the family of the poet Anatoly Chepurov .

From 1974 to 1979 he studied at the Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography. N. K. Cherkasova (now RGII ).

From 1989 to 2004, he was the Dean of the Theater Studies Faculty of St. Petersburg State Institute of Architecture and Arts ( GTBATI) , later a professor at the Russian Theater Department at RGII.

Since joining the Alexandrinsky Theater for the post of artistic director Valery Fokin, Chepurov has headed research work in the oldest Russian theater as the head of the creative research unit. During his work in this position, the Unique Museum of Russian Drama was created at the Alexandrinsky Theater, which combined and structured the richest historical collection on the history of the Alexandrinsky Theater. Today A. A. Chepurov is an adviser to the artistic director of the Alexandrinsky Theater.

Since 2011, he served as the rector of the St. Petersburg State Academy of Theatrical Arts [1] . In 2014 he was elected RGISI Rector [2] .

In 2017 he left the post of rector at his own request [3] .

Political position

In 2014, he signed a collective appeal of cultural figures of the Russian Federation in support of the policy of the President of the Russian Federation V. V. Putin in Ukraine and in the Crimea [4] .

Executive editor of the book series “Library of the Alexandrinsky Theater,” in which twelve books were published, dedicated to the history of the Russian theater. Editor-in-chief of publications: “Alexandrinsky“ Inspector Valeriy Fokina ”(2005) and“ V. Fokin. Conversations about the profession "(2006). Author of the chapter in the textbook "History of the Russian Theater" (2005), about a hundred articles in journals and scientific collections.
