St. Luke's Church ( German: Lukaskirche ) is Munich's largest Protestant church . The temple belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bavaria . Located on the shore of Isar .
The building was built in 1893 - 1896 by the architect Albert Schmidt and consecrated in honor of St. Luke . The project has mainly Romanesque features, while elements of the Rhine Gothic dominate inside [1] . At the time of construction, it was the third Lutheran church of the city after the churches of St. Matthew, consecrated in 1833, and St. Mark, built in 1877. The eastern facade has two towers , in the western part there is a dome almost 64 m high .
The Church of St. Luke is the only well-preserved Protestant church in the historical part of Munich. Although the church in the city is called Der Dom Der Münchner Protestanten ( Cathedral of Munich Protestants ), it is not a bishop's chair . The temple has an organ in 1932 [2] .
