Acanthognathus teledectus

Acanthognathus teledectus (lat.) - a species of ants of the genus Acanthognathus from the tribe Dacetini , found in the tropics of South America ( Colombia ) [1] . The mandibles are long and narrow, with three apical teeth (fork): 2 long and 1 short. Clypeus is narrow. The body is mostly smooth and shiny. They have a reddish color and powerful developed mandibles, comparable in size to the mandibles of ants of the genus Odontomachus . These predatory ants live in small families in which there are only a few dozen ants (no less than 30 adults). The length of the workers is about 4 mm. The antennae of females and workers are 11-segmented, and the males are 12-segmented. Palp Formula: 5.3 (mandibular + labial). The species was first described in 1969 by the American worldmologist William Brown ( Brown WL Jr. ) and the Brazilian entomologist Walter Kempf ( WW Kempf ) [1] [2] .
