Fonseca ( Spanish: Fonseca ) - a city and municipality in northeast Colombia , in the territory of the department of Guajira .

Content
Geographical position
The city is located in the south-eastern part of Guahira, on the right bank of the Rancheria River , approximately 70 kilometers south of Rioachi , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 167 meters above sea level [1] .
The area of the municipality is 719 km² [2] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2012 was 31 514 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the city by years:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 49.2% of the population of the city, women - 50.8%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 70% of the city's population; Negroes , mulattoes and Raysalsi - 3.8%; Indians - 2.8% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 89.7%.
Economics
The basis of the city’s economy is agricultural production .
55.4% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 29.3% are service enterprises, 14.1% are industrial enterprises, 1.1% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
