The flag of Quebec (known under the unofficial name of Fr. Fleurdelisé ) was adopted on January 21, 1948 , under the administration of Maurice Duplessis. It is a blue rectangular cloth with a white straight cross. Each blue rectangle depicts a royal heraldic lily ( fleur-de-lis ). The ratio of the width of the flag to its length is 2: 3.
The predecessors of the modern flag were the flags of Carillon and Carillon-Sacré-Cœur , which also depicted Fleur-de-lis, and which have been used since the parade on June 24, 1848. A flag with a white straight cross on a blue or red flag was used as a stern flag on French ships during the initial development of modern Canada (the blue flag was chosen to make the flag more different from the unpopular red trading flag of Great Britain in Quebec). Fleur-de-lis and the cross emphasize the origin of the province and the role of France in the development of Canada [1] . Heraldic lily is considered a symbol of purity. Blue background - a symbol of paradise.
The North American Vexillology Association (NAVA) in a 2001 study recognized the flag of Quebec as the best design among the provinces of Canada [2] .
Quebec Flag Day is celebrated on January 21.
