Viljandimaa ( Est. Viljandimaa or Viljandi maakond ) is a county in Estonia located in the southern part of the country. The administrative center is the city of Viljandi . The county consists of three cities and 9 volosts.

Content
Geography
The central and western parts of the county are located within the wavy hills of Sakala . Within the northwestern part there is a series of swamp massifs united in Soomaa National Park (370 kmΒ²).
History
In the Middle Ages, Viljandimaa was an important commercial and political center, where the ruins of several castles are located.
Administrative device
The county government is led by an elder appointed by the Estonian government for a term of five years. Currently, the elder of Viljandimaa is Kalle Kuttis.

The county (maakond) is divided into municipalities. There are 3 independent city municipalities (est. Linnad - city) and 9 rural municipalities (est. Allad - volost).
