Biography

Born in 1924 in the village of Sarak in the family of a peasant. He graduated from 10 classes, he worked at the farm. In December 1942, drafted into the ranks of the Red Army . Baptism of fire took place at Stalingrad. After the defeat of the enemy at Stalingrad, the 51st battalion of sappers remained in the city for a long time, clearing it of mines of shells. In March 1944 the battalion was transferred to the Kerch Peninsula . The sappers attacked along with machine gunners, freed Theodosius , Yalta , stormed Sapun Mountain . In July 1944, the battalion was transferred to the 1st Baltic Front . He participated in the battles for the liberation of the Baltic states . On August 1, 1944, in the area of ​​the Zavishin settlement (18 km north of Kedainiai , Lithuania ), crossed the Nevyazh River, carried out engineering reconnaissance and, bypassing the minefields, brought the advancing units to the rear of the enemy, which contributed to the overall success. Order of August 9, 1944 was awarded the Order of Glory 3rd degree . [1] At the end of 1944, the battalion was transferred to the 39th Army of the 3rd Belorussian Front . Participated in battles in East Prussia . On the night of January 14, the passage in the wire obstacles and the minefields of the enemy was interrupted by enemy fire. Nakhmetov grenades suppressed the fire of the enemy machine gun and continued demining. Order for the troops of the 39th Army on February 25, 1945 was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree. In the spring of 1945, before the beginning of the storming of the city-fortress Königsberg, the sappers every night went on combat mission. The division in which Nakhmetov served was already in the 43rd Army . The valuable information obtained by him in the engineering survey of the marshland was used in the storming of the city . On April 6, he drove a group of machine gunners to the rear, made a passage in wire obstacles and a minefield, defused more than 15 anti-personnel mines and 3 land mines . On April 7 and 8 he was active on the streets of the city. Four days did not go out of battle, ensured comrades safe progress. For the exemplary performance of command assignments in battles with Nazi invaders, Agagasan Nakhmetov was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree.

In 1947, Sergeant Nakhmetov was demobilized. Returning to his native Azerbaijan , he worked as a foreman of the tea-growing brigade at the state farm of Astara . He lived in the village of Sarak. Participated in the anniversary Victory Parade of 1995 .
