Biography

De la Peña started playing football at the University’s branch Nacional - Universitario. In 1976 he joined the main part of the club, where he made his debut in professional football. For five years, as part of the "tricolor" de la Peña, he won the Uruguay Championship twice, and the year 1980 was for him, like the whole team, triumphant. Nacional won the national championship, the Libertadores Cup and in the match for the Intercontinental Cup, which was held for the first time in Tokyo (Toyota Cup), beat the Nottingham Forest , the winner of the European Champions Cup .

In 1979, Eduardo made his debut in the national team of Uruguay. In total, he played for her for three years, and it was in 1980 that de la Peña became an indispensable player in Celeste, having played 10 games for her and marking one goal. At the junction of 1980 and 1981 The national team became the winner of the Mundialito (Golden Cup) tournament with the participation of all world champions except England , timed to the 50th anniversary of the first Mundial . De la Peña was also a base player in this tournament.

After 1981, Eduardo’s career slowed sharply. Midfielder left the “Nacional” and moved to the Mexican UAG. Two years later, de la Peña moved to the Argentinean Huracan, where he ended his career at the age of 29.

After the career of a football player he worked in various positions in the structure of "Nacional".
