Basic Information
The first mention of the park dates back to the time of the Jin Dynasty . Since the Yuan Dynasty , the park has been the northern dead end of China’s great canal linking Beijing with Hangzhou . For this reason, the park area was an important commercial area of Beijing.
The park has preserved more than 40 cultural sites, which is more than a third of the Xicheng district. Many buildings in Beijing, which occupy an important place in history, are located here. Around the lakes there are ten famous Taoist and Buddhist temples and several imperial mansions and gardens. Among them are the gardens and the palace of Prince Gong , the Beijing house of Song Qingling , Deshengmen Tower, the temples of Guanghua, Huaytun, Huixiang.
All lakes are surrounded by trees. In summer, tourists visiting the park have the opportunity to rent boats. In winter, people come to the lakes with ice skates. In 1992, Beijing's municipal authorities declared the park area “a historical and cultural scenic area.”
