History
The national team of Czechoslovakia, which included players from the Austrian club Wiener Amator and Bratislava 's Slavia, held their first match in 1927, losing to the Romanians (6:23) [1] . However, the Czechoslovak Rugby Union was created only next year, so the match with Romania is not recognized in official documents. The first captain of the Czechoslovak team was Frantisek Ruber [2] , a close friend of Ondřej Sekora . The first official match Czechoslovakia also lost. In Leipzig, the young team lost to the Germans (0:38).
In 1934, the national rugby union became one of the founding members of the International Amateur Rugby Federation (FIRA). Other founders of the organization were France , Italy , Spain , Catalonia , Romania and Germany.
In 1956, the Czechoslovak rugby players played with one of the leaders of European rugby, France, in Toulouse and conceded with a rather small difference (3:28) [3] . This result was a milestone in the development of the game in the country, since the Second World War had a very negative impact on the whole Czechoslovak sport.
Among the famous players of the national team should be noted Zdenek Barchanek, Edward Krützner and Bruno Kudrnu. Krutsner subsequently served as president of the Czech Rugby Union, and Kudrna became the best Czech player six times.
