At the end of the academy's science course with the title of candidate of theology , Soloviev entered the civil service, the state control department , where he served for over 22 years, holding successively the following posts: account officer of the railway department, assistant auditor and junior auditor, senior controller of road controls: Ussuriysky, southwestern, Tashkent and, finally, the assistant to the chief controller of control of the Samara-Zlatoust railway .

He was the author of several scientific works in the field of psychology, psychophysiology and biology, giving a peculiar explanation of the origin of organic forms. His most significant works: “The theory of volitional representations. Its relation to the specialization and elevation of the organic world "(St. Petersburg: type. N. A. Lebedeva, 1892. - 404 pp.) And" Attention as an organic force. The experience of the biological theory of attention ”(St. Petersburg: St. Petersburg, commercial. His name can often be found in polemical literature of the 90s of the XIX century, which covered the debate that took place between the Marxists, as the spokesmen of materialism, and idealistic metaphysicians of various kinds. Opponents of Marxism like Sharapov, who occupied the right wing among the representatives of metaphysical thinking, were especially fond of citing Solovyov’s works. The latter called T. P. Solovyov “Russian Darwin” in a pamphlet published under the same title. The brochure aroused criticism of L. Trotsky .
