Story

The performance is based on real events, its action takes place in the second half of the XVIII century, during the reign of Catherine II . Count Aleksey Orlov , who had once facilitated her accession to the throne, now came out of the empress’s mercy and sent to an honorary exile at the head of the Russian fleet in Italy. Here he meets a young beauty who calls herself Elizabeth, the granddaughter of Peter I , and claims to be the Russian crown. Orlov started a love affair with the pseudo-heiress, also known as Princess Tarakanova, in order to find out her plans, and thereby restore Catherine’s disposition.
