Vidas Gedvilas ( lit. Vydas Gedvilas ; born May 17, 1959, Uzhgiriai village, Kelme district , Šiauliai county , Lithuania ) - basketball coach , doctor of biomedicine , political and public figure of Lithuania, chairman of the Sejm of the Republic of Lithuania (2012-2013).

Education
He graduated from high school in the town of Luok, Telšiai district in 1977 . In 1981 he graduated with honors from the Institute of Physical Culture of Lithuania (formerly the Lithuanian Academy of Physical Culture , currently the Lithuanian Sports University ) in Kaunas , specializing in physical education teacher. There he graduated from graduate school in 1985 - 1988 . In 1989 he defended his doctoral dissertation and has the title of Doctor of Biomedicine . Since 1981, lecturer at the Academy of Physical Culture of Lithuania. In 2001 - 2004 he served as vice-rector of the Academy.
He speaks Russian and German .
Career
Sport
In 1988-1993 he was an assistant coach of the Atlétas basketball team Institute of Physical Culture; during this time, the team became the champion of Lithuania three times. In 1993-2004, he was the head coach of the Victoria women's basketball team at the Academy of Physical Culture. Under his leadership, the team became the champion of Lithuania, the champion among the Baltic countries, participated in the European Cup , getting into the 16 strongest teams of the continent.
In 1996-2002, he was the head coach of the Lithuanian women's basketball team . During this time, the Lithuanian women's team, for the first time in the history of Lithuanian basketball, became the European champion in 1997, took sixth (1999) and fourth (2001) places, participated in two world championships, taking sixth (1998) and eleventh (2002) places.
In 1999, the student team of Lithuania, under the leadership of V. Gedvilas, took fifth place at the Universiade in Spain .
Policy
Since 2004, member of the Lithuanian Labor Party. Since 2004 - Member of the Seimas of Lithuania [1] . in 2011-2012, a member of the council of self-government of the city of Kaunas [2] . November 19, 2012 was elected Chairman of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania [3] . After the resignation of the first vice speaker of the Sejm Vytautas Gapšis , accused of non-payment of the fine , he applied for resignation from the post of speaker.
Family
First wife Elena, they have two children: daughter Aquile and son Martinas. On May 17, 2012, he married a second time to Iolanta Grisitskaite - a social worker of the Jonava government , has a grandson Gabriel [4] .
Ranks and Awards
Honorary President of the Association of Basketball Coaches of Lithuania, member of the Executive Committee of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation. Author of scientific articles, methodological manuals, participant of many Lithuanian and international scientific conferences. In 1997 he was awarded the title of Honored Trainer of the Lithuanian SSR and the highest category of expert trainer.
For services he was awarded the Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas 3rd degree (knight's cross) [5] .
