On 9 March 2013, Juan Carlos Barreto Barreto was ordained a Bishop by Bishop Espinal Pablo Emiro Salas Anthelis in cooperation with the Apostolic Nuncio in Colombia by Archbishop Aldo Covali and Archbishop Ibague Flavio Calle Zapata.
