Biography
Jose Gabriel Calderon Contreras was born July 15, 1919 in Bogota, Colombia. November 8, 1942 was ordained a priest.
On December 18, 1958, Pope John XXIII appointed José Gabriel Calderón Contreras the titular bishop of Victoriana and the auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Bogotá . On January 6, 1959, Jose Gabriel Calderón Contreras was ordained bishop by Cardinal Paolo Jobbé , accompanied by Cardinals Antonio Zamore and Giuseppe Antonio Ferretto .
On April 26, 1962, Pope John XXIII appointed José Gabriel Calderón Contreras as bishop of the newly formed diocese of Cartago.
Participated in I, II, III and IV sessions of the Second Vatican Council .
On April 19, 1995, Jose Gabriel Calderon Contreras retired. He died in Cartago on March 15, 2006.
