Description
The wingspan is about 4 cm. Outwardly, they resemble bumblebees (the abdomen is fluffy on top, the antennae are fusiform). They drink nectar without sitting on the flowers, but hang near them in the air. Found at altitudes from 1,400 to 2,200 m, adults fly in June and July. Caterpillars probably feed on plants of the genera Honeysuckle ( Lonicera ) and madder ( Rubia ) and bedstraw ( Galium ). The species was first described in 1903 by the English naturalist, banker and Lord Walter Rothschild and the German entomologist Karl Jordan [2] .
