Baranov, Alexander Ivanovich (Governor)

Aleksandr Ivanovich Baranov ( August 22 [ September 3 ] 1821–18 [30] July 1888 [1] [2] ) - Russian military and state leader, Moscow civil governor (1867–1868), general of artillery (1884).

Biography

He graduated from the course at the Mikhailovsky Artillery School , and then in the officer classes (later the Artillery Academy). In July 1842, Baranov entered the Guards Horse Artillery, where in March 1855, already in the rank of colonel, he received one of the batteries in command [2] .

August 6, 1862 was appointed aide-de-camp , on August 30 of the same year he was promoted to major general , appointed to the suite of the sovereign and counted among the Imperial headquarters. In September 1864, he was appointed head of the 1st district of the gendarme corps, but was soon sent to the governor-general in Vilna , from where he was appointed the Moscow governor in 1866 [2] .

In 1867, Baranov was the last high-ranking official, whom the Metropolitan of Moscow Filaret (Drozdov) received several hours before his death [3] .

August 30, 1870 received the rank of lieutenant general . Since 1871, the chief of artillery of the Kharkiv Military District and since 1876 an advisory member of the artillery committee. May 6, 1884 promoted to generals from artillery [2] .
