Biography

From the nobility of the Moscow province . He studied in the artillery cadet corps and at the end of the course in which (1771) he was in military service until 1797. For the successful fulfillment of an assignment to draw up a plan, a project and an estimate of a new road between St. Petersburg and Moscow (1786), he received the Order of St. Vladimir of the 4th degree. In 1796 he was sent to Moscow to participate in the commission for the preparation of the coronation.

Renamed from Lieutenant Colonel to State Councilor in 1797 and appointed to the Heroldmeister Office , on May 15, 1799 he retired with the rank of State Councilor, but a month later he was appointed honorary guardian of the Moscow Educational Home , and two years later he was appointed a member of the council of the St. Catherine and the manager of the Alexander School .

Produced on February 24, 1801 as Privy Councilor and awarded the Order of St. Anna of the 1st degree in 1803, N.I. Baranov was appointed Moscow Civil Governor on January 8, 1804. On June 16, 1806, he was dismissed from this post and appointed senator, with the retirement of an honorary guardian; Prior to his retirement in 1819, he was present in the VI Department. At the same time, he did not abandon the activities of the department of the Empress Maria and, taking care of the economic and educational needs of the institutions of this department, earned the Empress Dowager's special friendship.

At different times, Baranov received 14 diamond rings and snuffboxes, had the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky (1819), the Order of St. John of Jerusalem and diamond signs of the Order of St. Anna of the 1st degree. He was buried in Moscow at the cemetery of the Donskoy Monastery ( photo of the grave ).

Family

Wife - Varvara Alexandrovna Boltina (12.6.1768-19.6.1838), granddaughter of Prince F. I. Golitsyn ; daughter of team leader Alexander Ivanovich Boltin from his marriage with the writer and translator of Princess Evdokia Fedorovna Golitsyna. Their kids:

  • Praskovya (17.3.1792-4.6.1880), maid of honor of the courtyard (12.19.1817), according to a contemporary, “had all the virtues to rive respect to itself, possessed different talents beyond knowledge, was an excellent musician and artist” [1] . In 1822, she married Pavel Sergeyevich Shishkin (1786-1850), later the leader of the nobility of the Rybinsk district . A. Ya. Bulgakov wrote to his brother in May 1821: “This time Baranova is definitely getting married, for there was an engagement, the groom is praised: someone Shishkin, a retired lancer, with a name, with a figure and upbringing: yesterday they said that she was not worth it . A few days before, she refused to General Zass , who, apparently, is not worth it ” [2] . She was buried in the cemetery of the Donskoy Monastery in Moscow. Her son Nikolay Shishkin .
  • Alexander (23.5.1793-25.4.1821), a close friend of N.I. Turgenev , a real state adviser;
  • Ivan (28.5.1794–13.6.1872), participant in the Patriotic War of 1812, a freemason, a retired major general.
