Pitalito ( Spanish Pitalito ) is a city and municipality in Colombia within the department of Huila . The city is the second largest in the department and is considered one of the most important centers of coffee production in Colombia, the quality of beans is especially noted.

Geographical position
The city is located in the department of Huila in the valley of the Rio Grande de la Magdalena, 180 km from the capital of the department Neiva . The absolute height is 1,318 meters above sea level [1] .
The area of the municipality is 1 012 km² [2] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2012 was 118,660 people [3] . Dynamics of the population of the city by year:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 49.3% of the city’s population, women - respectively, 50.7%. Racially whites and mestizos accounted for 96.8% of the city’s population; blacks - 2.3%; Indians - 0.9%. [4] . The literacy rate among the population over 5 years was 87.5%.
