The Cartel of the North Coast ( Spanish: Cartel de la Costa ) is a drug cartel operating in northern Colombia . Mainly controlled drug trafficking in the areas of the Colombian coast of the Caribbean Sea, controlled drug trafficking from other regions of Colombia and neighboring countries, as well as local drug production.
History
The head of the North Coast Cartel was Alberto Orlandes-Gamboa. On June 6, 1998, he was arrested and extradited to the United States, where he confessed to numerous crimes in the field of drug trafficking. Other notable cartel members were the Nasser family, who owned a business in Barranquilla, including the expensive El Prado hotel, which is currently owned by the Colombian government.
The most famous members of the clan were Julio Cesar Nasser David and his ex-wife Sheila Nasser. She was arrested in Switzerland and then extradited to the United States in September 1994. Sheila Nasser claimed responsibility for smuggling about 30 shipments of cocaine and marijuana in the United States between 1976 and 1994. Her husband was also to be extradited, but he died on January 13, 2000.
Their son Jorge “Tito” Nasser, after serving his prison sentence, was killed by militants in Barranquilla when leaving the gym. Carlos Alberto Nasser was arrested in 1998. Claudia Nasser and Carlos Alberto Nasser were found guilty of money laundering and illegal business.
After the extradition of Alberto Orlandes-Gamboa, one of his employees, Kersis Antonio González, who extradited Orlandes-Gamboa, was killed by militants in a commercial institution in Barranquilla. Gustavo Salazar Bernal was killed in Cartagena on August 30, 2001 by a gunman who was associated with the Cartel of the Northern Valley . He was killed for being responsible for the loss of a consignment of drugs transported to Europe. His brother Hernando was also killed by a member of the North Valley Cartel.
