Biography

Born on November 27, 1956 in the village of Arkhangelskoye, Yusvinsky District, Perm Region. From 1964 to 1974 he studied at Yusvinsky high school.

After graduation, he entered the Faculty of Biology of Perm State University. A. M. Gorky .

Since 1979, he worked in Kirov at the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Hunting and Animal Breeding named after Professor B. M. Zhitkov (VNIIOZ).

Since 2001 - Head of the Laboratory of Ecology, VNIIOZ RAAS.

In 1989, he defended his thesis on "Comparative biological characteristics of European and Canadian beavers in the USSR (adaptive changes during acclimatization)", received the degree of candidate of sciences in zoology.

In 2003 he defended his doctoral dissertation “Biological features of native and artificially created Eurasian beaver populations and their importance for the resource management strategy”, received a doctorate in biological sciences with a degree in hunting management.

Scientific activity

Back in 1979, the institute offered him a topic for the scientific work “Beavers”.

In the first year of his work, the young scientist visited a long expedition to the Far East, where he was in the Khabarovsk Territory, and studied beaver acclimatization.

During his work, he visited countries such as Germany, Spain, Japan, Poland, Mongolia, etc. The scientist traveled to Mongolia repeatedly, 5 or 6 times.

For a quarter of a century, Alexander Pavlovich made numerous scientific expeditions to Russia and the USSR at a research institute.

He conducted research on beavers and other representatives of the animal kingdom in Lithuania, Turkmenistan and Belarus.

Tuvan Beaver Program

From 1995 to 2005, the doctor led the comprehensive scientific program Tuvan Beaver.

Within the framework of this program, individual projects have been completed: "Re-acclimatization of the Tuvan beaver in Toja" (2000-2004); “Study, conservation and restoration of a rare species of Tuvan beaver on the territory of the Republic of Tuva” (2003).

In 1997 - 2002 An in-depth study of the Tuvan beaver population was carried out using the method of live-catching and tagging by specialists of the All-Russian Research Institute of Agriculture of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Kirov with the participation of specialists from Germany: professors M. Stubbe and A. Stubbe.

In the laboratory of cytology and genetics in the city of Novosibirsk, a karyotype of the Tuvan beaver was established and its genetic database was created. The foundation was laid for monitoring the Tuvan beaver on the river. Azas.

In 2003-2004 Resettlement of 17 beavers from r. Azas on the river Belin. According to the autumn survey of 2005, beavers on the river. Belin took root. As a result, a new habitat for Tuva beaver (Belin River) was created.

An action plan has been developed for the protection and resettlement of native beavers in the upper Yenisei.

Awards and recognition

In 2011, Savelyev A.P. was awarded the Great Silver Medal of the German Society for the Study of Game and Hunting (Gesellschaft für Wildtier- und Jagdforschung eV) for his special merits in the study of wild animals.

He is a member of scientific theriological societies in Russia and Germany.

On January 1, 2002, he was awarded the title of Extraordinary Member of the Society for the Study of Game and Hunting in Berlin.

Member of the Moscow Society of Hunters and Fishermen. For merits in the development of the hunting economy of the country this society Savelyev was awarded on December 7, 2004 with the Diploma to them. St. George the Victorious. (This saint is considered the patron saint of hunters).

In 2012, in honor of the scientist, a new species of animal, a mite, which lives exclusively on beavers, was named Schizocarpus saveljevi.
