Biography
Born and raised in Moscow ; when the boy was 12 years old, his family emigrated to the United States of America and settled in Chicago [3] . In 2009, he moved to Brooklyn [4] , where he currently resides [5] . Balasanov graduated from the University of Chicago with a bachelor 's degree in mathematics and earned a master's degree in interactive communications from New York University [6] .
He began his musical career as a guitarist in the band Hotbox the Space Shuttle (later renamed Gigantic Titanic Rides Again), performing free jazz and rock , and in 1999 joined the Noisy band Exoskeleton. The following year, Balasanov switched to traditional jazz and assembled the Stas quartet, which played both original compositions and processing of pop numbers. In 2003, his interest in electronic music aroused, and two years later, Slava released the album ... She Is , ignored by the music press, under the pseudonym Pop Terror. For his performances in Chicago clubs, he chose the Korg Electribe sampler [1] .
Together with producers Garo and Lokua, he founded the indie label Moment Sound, which released two of his releases: Sunflower (2008) and Neon Life (2009). In 2010, he released the single "Dreaming Tiger" on the Future Times label [3] . In addition, several tracks of Glory appeared on compilations released by! K7 and Mathematics labels. At the invitation of Daniel Lopatin , another descendant of the Russian emigration [7] , he switched to the label Software, which released his mini-album Soft Control [3] in November 2012, on which Balasanov departs from the traditional house in the direction of his modern variation - footwork [8 ] . In April 2013, shortly before the release of his long-playing record Raw Solutions , Slava was included in the list of “best new artists of the month” on the Spin magazine website [9] . Video clips were shot on two compositions from the album: Balasanov himself appears in Werk, dressed in a sweatshirt with the inscription “ Russia ” [7] ; in the video for “Girl Like Me”, directed by Eugene Kotlyarenko with the participation of model Lauren Avery, the story of incestuous communication between teenagers is told [10] .
