Biography

Born around the 60s of the 13th century on the territory of the modern Vietnamese province of Thanh Hoa , died around the 40s of the 14th century . He lived during the reign of the Chan Dynasty . Le Chuck was a representative of a noble family of district auditors, originating from the era of the Eastern Jin dynasty . He spent his young years with his grandmother’s brother, whose name was Le Peng ( Chinese trad. 黎 琫 , pinyin : Lí Běng , pall .: Li Beng ), then he took the surname of this kind. He served at the court of King Chan Tong; years later, he went to serve as the quartermaster of the major military commander Chiang Kyeong in the Navy of the Chan Dynasty.

In 1285, the Chinese naval armada of the Yuan dynasty attacked Daiviet , striking the guard garrisons of warlord Chan Kang. He did not surrender to the enemies, but Le Chuck, like many others, nevertheless surrendered to the Yuan forces (Chiang Kyeong was killed on the way to the north by a shot from his own units). Le Chuck was subsequently brought to the city of Dadu , becoming there a ministerial official at the court of the Yuan Dynasty. Later, from about 1292, Le Chuck lived in Hubei Province in Hanyang County, where he became friends with the upper classes and, living in seclusion and contemplating local landscapes, immersed himself in the study of classical literary works and writing his own. In the 40s of the XIV century, he died.

Creativity

He completed his main work, Notes on Annam, by about 1307 - now it is considered one of the earliest fundamental works on the history of Vietnam. He was also the author of several dozen poems.
