Women's World Volleyball Championship 2014 - Qualification (Europe)

Qualification (qualifying tournament) of the 17th World Volleyball Championship for women among the countries of the European Volleyball Confederation (ECV, CEV) was held from May 23, 2013 to January 5, 2014 . Applications for participation came from 41 countries, which is a record for the entire time of the qualification tournaments of the world championships [1] . Nine vouchers for the World Cup were played, the owners of which were the national teams of Russia , Germany , Turkey , Azerbaijan , Belgium , Croatia , Bulgaria , Serbia and the Netherlands . The Italian national team (organizing country) was exempted from qualification.

Competition Formula

European qualification provides for 3 stages of selection. In addition, two teams at the end of the European Championship 2013 go directly to the final of the World Cup, bypassing the qualification. The 12 best (rated) national teams were directly admitted to the 3rd (decisive) group round. The remaining participants began the qualifying tournament from the 1st stage.

For victories 3: 0 and 3: 1, teams get 3 points, for victories 3: 2 - 2 points, for defeats 2: 3 - 1, for defeats 1: 3 and 0: 3 points are not awarded.

The winners of group tournaments (Croatia, Belarus, Belgium, Ukraine, Slovakia, Estonia, Cyprus) went directly to the 3rd round of qualification. Teams who took second places in groups A – F (Montenegro, Israel, Switzerland, Hungary, Greece, Latvia) will continue the struggle for three trips to the 3rd stage in the 2nd group round.

European Championship

The 2013 European Women's Volleyball Championship was held from September 6 to 14 in Germany and Switzerland . According to his results, tickets to the World Cup received two of the best teams -   Russia and   Germany

In the 3rd (final) group round of qualification three best teams came out following the results of the 2nd stage - Hungary, Israel, Switzerland.

Participants: Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Spain, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, France, Czech Republic (all exempted from previous qualification rounds), Belarus, Belgium, Slovakia, Ukraine, Croatia, Estonia, Cyprus (all according to the results of the 1st group round), Hungary, Israel, Switzerland (all based on the results of the 2nd group round).

20 teams participating in the 3rd stage of qualification are divided into 5 groups of 4 teams. Winners of group tournaments become holders of tickets to the World Cup. Two more vacancies from Europe are filled by two teams that showed the best results among the teams that took second place in the groups.
