Caryl Phillips ( March 13, 1958 , Saint Kitts ) is a British-West Indian writer.

Biography
The baby was brought by the family to Leeds . He studied English literature at Queen's College ( Oxford ), graduated in 1979 . In 1980, he first arrived in St. Kitts, since then he regularly visits the island. He taught at universities in Europe, USA, Africa. Since 1990 - at Amherst College , since 1998 - at Barnard College . He is currently a professor of English literature at Yale . His screenplay, The Mysterious Masseur ( 2001 , based on the novel of the same name by Naipol ) was named the best at the IFF in Mar del Plata [1] .

Honorary Member of Queen's College. Member of the Royal Literary Society ( 2000 ), Royal Society of Fine Arts ( 2011 ). The novels and essays of the writer are translated into many European languages.
