Watkins Books is London's oldest esoteric bookstore specializing in esotericism, mysticism, occultism, eastern religions, and modern spirituality. [1] The bookstore was created by John M. Watkins, a friend of Madame Blavatsky , at Charing Cross 26 in 1897. Prior to this, John Watkins already sold books through a catalog, which he began to publish in March 1893. [2]
Jeffrey Watkins (1896-1981) owned and operated the store after his father. [3] He was also the author [4] and publisher, including quite significant books, including the first publication by Carl Gustav Jung of the Seven Sermons to the Dead (Septem Sermones Ad Mortuos), published in 1925. [5]
In 1901, Watkins Books moved to Cecil Court 21, where it remains today. The publisher publishes a magazine called Watkins' Mind Body Spirit , which prints the most famous authors in this field. Since March 2010, Watkins Books has been owned by Ethan Ilfeld. [6] [7]
