Biography
He was the son of a graduate, and then a professor in the field of descriptive geometry and construction art of the St. Petersburg Institute of Railway Engineers Valerian Ivanovich Kurdyumov . From an early age he wrote poetry and short stories. Their family had rich cultural traditions of a wealthy noble family. Vsevolod himself had an excellent philological education, including the Tenishev School , Petersburg and Munich universities. In the years 1916-1924. Vsevolod Kurdyumov served first in the tsarist, then in the Red Army.
The first, youthful collection of poems "Azra" (St. Petersburg, 1912) did not go unnoticed, V. Bryusov and N. Gumilyov , among other reviewers, responded to it . And although their verdict to the budding poet was rather severe: “a deviation towards the decadence of the past,” “gloomy romanticism, tearful sensitivity,” Kurdyumov a year later came out with the program book “Powdered Heart”, in which he tried to more closely correspond to the poetry declared by himself school "Kuzmina. Gumilev did not like the book for its "reckless aesthetic snobbery", "unceremonious treatment of the Russian language." At the same time, a number of reviews noted the increased technique of verse, the serious work of the young author in the field of rhyme. “Very few poets try to diversify the forms of their poems,” wrote V. Bryusov, “so V. Kurdyumov writes rondo (and without fail for some difficult rhymes:“ heart - other faith - sisters - door - thirds “) [1] " .
Vsevolod Kurdyumov becomes a member of the highly respected “Sluchevsky Evenings”, a little later - the literary circle “ Trireme ”, the society of poets “ Marseilles Sailors ”. In February 1913 he was admitted to the “Poets Workshop”, which became a powerful catalyst for his further poetic growth. During the years 1914-1915. in Petrograd, one after the other, four of Kurdyumov’s short-run collections were published: “My Lamentations,” “In the Winter Dawns,” “The Light of Two Candles,” and “Last Year's Blue”, which dispersed primarily among the poets that I knew. In these books, as noted by M. Gasparov, "from pseudo-Kuzminsky playful serenity, the author gradually moved to neurasthenic harshness."
During his service in the army did not leave literary studies. He participated in “Poet Evenings” in the literary and artistic cabaret “ The Halt of Comedians ”, staged plays, including his own, in regimental theaters, joined the All-Russian Union of Poets, and published in a number of regional periodicals. With lyric poems, he performed for the last time in 1922, in the Berlin magazine “Flashes”. And after he entered the stage of the State Central Puppet Theater as an actor in 1934, he began to write for children. A whole series of Kurdyumov's plays - transcriptions of fairy tales and legends - was performed in many children's theaters in the country. Among them are "The Little Humpbacked Horse", "Ilya Muromets" and others.
An urn with ashes was buried in the columbarium of the Don cemetery .
