Biography

Jorge Carmona Rios started playing football for the team of the Pontifical Bolivarian University. In the mid -1980s, he became a professional and made his debut in the High Division of the Colombian Championship for the Independente Medellin team.

In 1989, Carmona moved to another Medellin team, Atletico Nacional, where he spent his brightest years in his professional career. In the same year, he helped the team win the Libertadores Cup for the first time in Colombian football. In 1991, he won the Colombian Championship. He was distinguished by his technique on the field, and ended his career quite early. In 1985, as part of the youth national team of Colombia, he participated in the championship of South America for players no older than 16 years old (Spanish: Campeonato Sudamericano Sub-16 de 1985 ), held in Argentina . For the adult team did not play.

At the end of his football career, Jorge Carmona became involved in the car and horse breeding business.

On the night of October 13, 2005, Jorge Carmona and his business partner, horse trainer Hernan Alonso Alvarez Velazquez, died at the hands of unknown criminals. The car in which Carmona and Velazquez drove began to be pursued by two killers, after which they used 9 mm caliber combat pistols. Two shots hit Carmone's head. The police put forward several versions of the reason for the murder of the former athlete - personal revenge, his possible (but unproven) connections with Medellin's drug cartels , as well as his car dealership.

Jorge was a friend of Faustino Asprilla , one of the best Colombian football players of the 20th century [1] . Jorge’s brother, John Jairo Carmona , was also a footballer who led Atlético Nacional in 1995 as a coach. At the time of his brother’s death, John Jairo was an assistant coach for the Independente Medellin.
