Brave (battleship, 1847)

"Brave" - sailing 84-gun battleship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet . One of two 84-gun ships of the “Brave” type, built in Nikolaev and being one of the largest ships of the 84-gun rank. Member of the Crimean War .

Service History

The ship "Brave" was laid in Nikolaev and after launching in 1848 moved to Sevastopol .

As part of the squadron was in practical voyages in the Black Sea in 1849 , 1852 and 1853 . August 12, 1853 took part in the training attack of the fleet on the Sevastopol raid. From September 17 to October 2, as part of the squadron of Vice Admiral P. S. Nakhimov, he transported 955 soldiers and officers of the Vilna Regiment of the 13th Division from Sevastopol to Sukhum-Kale .

On October 11, 1853, as part of the squadron, P. S. Nakhimov left Sevastopol to the Anatolian coast in search of Turkish ships. From November 8 to 10, a severe storm survived, as a result of which he lost the grottoes-rey, in connection with which he was sent for repair to Sevastopol.

After the repair, on November 20, he left Sevastopol to Sinop, but, not finding the squadron of P. S. Nakhimov there , he went past Trebizond to Sukhum-Kale and on December 8, Sevastopol.

In April 1854 he stood on the roads of Sevastopol. In January 1855, there were 248 crew members and 59 guns on board, by which time the ship was between Pavlovskaya and the fourth battery.

August 28, 1855 "Brave" was flooded in the Sevastopol raid while leaving the city with a garrison. After the war, during the clearing of the Sevastopol Bay in 1861, it was raised in parts [3] .
