Slavic embroidery is a type of decorative and applied art of the Slavs , which consists in applying an ornament to fabrics with the help of sewing .

History

Shirts ( embroidery ), tablecloths , and rushnyks were usually decorated with embroidery . Characteristic color: red color of the picture [1] on a white canvas. Initially, embroidery performed magical purposes and served as a talisman. She adorned those parts of the costume through which, according to our ancestors, evil forces could penetrate the human body. Hence the main significance of embroidery in antiquity is protective. The gate pattern, cuffs, hem, neckline were embroidered with a protective pattern [2] .

A frequent plot of embroidery is rhombuses, broken and straight lines, dots, crosses. In addition to these abstract images, often associated with the sun, earth, water and grain, the motifs of embroidery include schematic images of flowers, trees, birds, horses, dogs, and alkonosts .

The seams with which the old embroideries are made are counted. That is, for each stitch, the threads of the fabric are counted. Previously, the pattern is not transferred to the fabric, but only its place and size can be outlined with large stitches. The most widespread are counted seams, such as “painting”, “set”, “ counted surface ”.
