History
The first mention of Granville belongs to the XII century and is associated with Evrard de Monchey, abbot of Saint Lucien de Beauvais, who is considered the founder of the city. On September 2, 1680, a big fire broke out in the city, destroying more than 800 houses; the southern gate, preserved as a historical monument, has survived to this day. During World War II, Granville was subjected to massive bombardments; many buildings in the city center that were restored in the 1950s were destroyed.
