History
The group was formed as a “unit” (subgroup) of the Japanese girlish music group Sakura Gakuin . The concept of the BABYMETAL group is “an alloy of metal and idol music” [2] [3] .
Their first single, titled “BABYMETAL × Kiba of Akiba”, reached third place in Oricon’s weekly indie hit parade (Oricon Indie Singles Chart, among releases on independent record labels) and on the first in the indie list of Tower Records Shibuya [4] . The first single BABYMETAL on a major label sold in the first week in the amount of 19 thousand copies and debuted in sixth place on the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart [2] (that is, in the main charts, for the week among all releases).
In the spring of 2013, Suzuka Nakamoto , who was already 15 years old, graduated from high school and moved to senior. Consequently, she had to “graduate” from the Sakura Gakuin Academy (that is, leave the Sakura Gakuin group because she is composed of girls no older than high school). Nevertheless, on February 1, at their concert in Tokyo, the group announced that it had not dissolved and will continue its activities to “change the world” for a certain time. Not as a “club” (unit) as part of Sakura Gakuin, but as a separate group. For how long, they did not specify [5] .
Suzuki's graduation from the Sakura Gakuin group took place on March 31.
On May 18, 2013 BABYMETAL announced that they would take part in the Summer Sonic 2013 rock festival, which will be held in Osaka on August 10 and 11 this year. This will be their second performance at this festival [6] .
On Wednesday, June 19, 2013, BABYMETAL released their next single. It is called "Megitsune" ("Fox") [7] .
