Biography

Valery Shkurny was born on April 1, 1959 in the village of Mikhailovna Klintsovsky district of the Bryansk region. By nationality - Russian. In 1978 , after graduating from the Klintsovsky Textile College, he was drafted into the Armed Forces . During the period of military service he rose to the post of division commander. A year after his discharge, he returned to the army and was a Komsomol worker for 9 years.

In December 1993, he joined the internal affairs bodies . He consistently worked as a trainee, security officer, senior security officer, deputy head of the SOBR of the Office for Combating Organized Crime at the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Bryansk Region [1] [2] .

He took part in many operations to capture dangerous criminals, to seize weapons and ammunition. In 1995, I did not get into the first group going to Chechnya , because at that time I was on vacation. I went to Chechnya with the second group, at the end of 1995 , when the situation in the republic was the most difficult and incomprehensible.

In the summer of 1996 , Skurny again went on a business trip to Chechnya. This time his detachment was sent to Grozny . They were assigned to guard the main headquarters of the operational management. Due to the fact that Russian police and Chechen fighters were sent to joint patrols around the city, some tension arose. To defuse the situation, Valery Ivanovich proposed to fight on the football field: the Russians are Chechens. From the side of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, the team included employees of the Bryansk SOBR and the Kaliningrad OMON. There were many fans of football on both sides, and he was supported. The match ended with the score 3-1 in favor of the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. That match from the dilapidated Grozny was later broadcast several times on central television.

On his third trip, already during the second Chechen company, Skurny went at the end of 1999 , despite the fact that he already had a length of service and could go on a well-deserved rest. Valery Ivanovich was worried about the young guys from his detachment, and they, in many respects, thanks to him, all returned from Chechnya alive and healthy.

March 8, 2000 , Shkurny participated in a special operation on the territory of the village of Komsomolskoye (now the village of Goy-Chu, Urus-Martan district of Chechnya ). Saving the wounded soldiers of his detachment, he died, covering a grenade with his body.

By the decree of the President of the Russian Federation of July 4, 2000, for the courage and heroism shown in the performance of military duty in the North Caucasus region, Captain Valery Shkurny was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation [3] .
